voice. >> latinos, business owners and newer residents ready to deliver colorado's crucial electoral votes, they could decide who takes the white house. >> reporter: now, one interesting thing about colorado is there's more unaffiliated or independent voters here than there are democrats or republicans. the president comes back to colorado, this is his 12th trip this year to the state. he's going to be colorado springs, that's conservative country. so both campaigns trying to get the vote out here. >> miguel marquez, thank you very much. >>> coming up next, the "b" swing state getting bombarded by election ads, the state of ohio. plus the top romney . >>> in the first half of october, the obama campaign received $90 million in donations. impressive, but romney did better. from october 1 through october 17, $112 million were brought in. this is according to his campaign. and they also say of that money, 92% was donations of $250 or less. plus the campaign has $169 million in cash on hand. no doubt some of that money will be going to the swing state of ohio. and let's go there to marti

tonight. you've got to focus on women in ohio, latinos particularly in colorado. i'm like joe. if i saw those numbers two weeks out -- >> you'd be surprised. >> you'd be scared to death. >> andrea. >> a couple things. turnout, turnout and turnout. in talking to the democratic operatives, they think they've got a better machine in different states. you're going to see joe biden and barack obama together in dayton tomorrow. they're counting on big rallies like the madison, wisconsin, rally to try to generate more excitement and what they do is more registration, more voting, off-site voting at these campus rallies. the students are a big, big thing for them. and getting to what richard haass and the council on foreign relations did with their study that condi rice co-chaired, economic security and national security issue, that is almost a better argument for mitt romney tonight, harold. i think both candidates will try to make that argument, but mitt romney might be able to articulate that argument better than barack obama. >> and mika, following up on what andrea said, if we wake up the

think if you look particularly at two groups for the president, latinos and you look at young voters, particularly the hispanics, he's getting 70% in our poll. but they're down by 12 points as far as enthusiasm. so the net effect is the same. so he's getting the same amount of hispanic help this time as he got four years ago. if he wants to truly take advantage of that, he's got to get hispanics more fired up. >> chuck, it's sam. two questions for you. one is, why is ohio not, in your estimation, a lean obama state at this juncture in all the polling news? and secondly, in what states with early voting do you think another candidate's going to actually have a real advantage and get out to a lead that might be insurmountable on election day? >> reporter: well, i'm not sure that -- i'm not sure we would talk about ohio. i mean, i sort of -- let's see if anything moves after the first debate. i think this is going to be an interesting question for the romney campaign in a week. if the ohio numbers don't move, there is a strong case to be made. joe, you and i walked through this path, th

like to pull back. >> all of us. >> same with latinos, he'd like to pull back having offered he was going to do immigration reform in the first year a promise that he's broken. >> but, you know what, he's doing pretty good with -- he's pushing the dream act, a lot of things favorable to the hispanic community. guys, it's just math. right now in the polling obama's at 70% with hispanics. you and i both know republican party long-term cannot be a sustainable party if they're losing hispanic -- >> what would the numbers be if jeb bush was the candidate? >> you're absolutely right. >> let us not forget that just one president removed we had a republican in the white house with 44% of hispanic vote. >> that was part of the tea party. >> if the dream act was so important, where was he the first two years when he had super majority in congress. >> he was trying to get the unemployment rate to 7.8%. >> we can go back and look at that and who tried hard and what stood in what person's way and talk about it. right now we have to take a quick break. and when we come back everybody on the p

to get the african-american turnout, the latino turnout and trying to recreate the magic among young voters. again, this is 2008. do the math. that's 34-point advantage for president obama among voters age 18 to 29 coming into october look at this governor romney was closer, just 25 points. the president's trying to recreate the 2008 numbers. this is still a lopsided advantage for president obama but not as big as 2008. wolf, this election is so close. that's what we're going to watch. in an election on the margins can governor romney cut into the president's support among those younger voters. can african-american turnout perhaps a little down. so in the final 20 days where they spend and where they go is something to keep a very close eye on. >> the immediate goal for both of these candidates less than three weeks to go is what virginia, ohio, florida, that could be the ball game right there. >> it could be. you're going to see them play in all of these nine states. you're going to see them play in all these states. vice president biden out today for example in the state of colorad
